By the end of 2010 I should be able to meet or exceed all of the following goals. It won’t be easy, but it will be worth it!

Earn extra income to improve my financial wellness

Make $9,360/month through my online endeavors – website, blogging, creating and selling manuals (I’ve loved writing manuals for years but have never figured out how to sell them.) For over 5 years I have wanted to build a successful online business. 2010 is definitely the year to make progress with this dream. I’ll learn from the experts like www.johnchow.com, www.stevepavlina.com and www.problogger.net to see if I can turn a blog site into $$. I’m not overly greedy but I believe that I need to aim for an amount that will make a difference in my life and that will allow me to help out a few others as well.

Pay off $90,000 of debt

I’ve been very busy for the past few years accumulating massive amounts of debt (not including my mortgage). Now is the time to alleviate myself of these costly burdens and finally know what it is like to live totally debt free. (I’ll break down the debts in an upcoming post.) You will be surprised and possibly shocked to see how easy it is to rack up thousands of debt dollars that cost thousands more to maintain. With a focused plan of attack, I believe I can pay off all this debt by December 31, 2010. Another tough challenge but I’m up for this one too! More resolutions to come…

I’m fed up with fast food. It’s not good for me or my family; it’s expensive and it’s not satisfying. (I consider fast food any food I can buy from a drive through.) Fast food has its place and I am by no means anti-fast food. I just know that over the past few years (probably over 10) I’ve eaten more fast meals than good, healthy home cooked meals. In the average week, we buy junk food at least 3 times and we also use TV dinners and microwavable food – which are variations of fast food as well. These foods are high in sodium/salt, fat, white flower and missing some key medicinal elements that promote physical wellness. My goal is to re-learn and advance my understanding of preparing and eating my own foods at least 5 days a week. This will probably be my biggest challenge but it has to be a priority in my life if I want to succeed at this pledge.

time to lose 60 pounds

I’m overweight. It’s not a secret but I have become fairly adept that ignoring this fact. I’m wearing a size 18+ bottom and 20+ top. I weigh about 215 lbs at 5’5″. It took years of denial to reach this weight. I’m now on daily high blood pressure medicine and a diuretic. I’m in my early 40s and the path I’m on does not lead to good things in the future. I’ve had word from my doctor that if I lose 20lbs, he will re-evaluate my meds and lower my dosage or even remove the pills altogether. My doctor told me this over a year ago. I haven’t taken my weight seriously until today. Lose 60 lbs in one year – I believe I can do it but it’s a major commitment and won’t be easy. I’m really terrified of this commitment because I’ve never been able to make any progress with my weight. The scale has only gone up and every time I try dieting, I give up because it’s too hard. This time I’ve got a plan. I’m ready and I’m definitely willing!

Have you ever felt that your job has taken over your entire life? On many days, you find yourself working even when you are not at work. That has been my experience for the past few years; my job has developed into such a large part of my life that many other things have been pushed aside. After I finish working, I have little time left to do all the other things that make life worth living. Quitting my job is unrealistic because I need to fund my life – pay my mortgage, support my family, etc. However, I must to find a way to create the space I need to accomplish the things that currently remain on a perpetual back burner without leaving my job.

I’ve been to many seminars and read lots of “self-help” books that proclaim the benefits of quitting your job to focus on doing exactly what you want to in life. The network marketing and small business industries promote this dream because many of us are in jobs we cannot stand or are forced to work in places or with people we don’t like. Still, how realistic is it to suggest that the best solution to attaining the life you want can only start when you leave your place of employment? We need to pay our bills, buy our food, support our children, help out who and where we can and probably most importantly, have a purpose that gets us out of bed every day. (When I’m not working, I find the days blend together and seem wasted because I’m not sure what to do with myself). So quitting my job is not an option for me or for many others.

This is how I developed the inspiration for “Move Over Work”. This blog is designed to help me and others answer the question: How can I create the life of my dreams while still maintaining and improving my personal experience with my current job? Move Over Work simply means that I intend to craft everything I want in life by moving my time and emotional commitment to work into a smaller, more manageable space in my life and using the space that is created to develop and balance the others areas that have been overlooked for so long.

This is a very powerful question that will take some time, effort and commitment to answer. If you are up for the challenge, you will find yourself having a better work and non-work life. I’ve defined 6 areas of wellness that need priority if I am going to improve my life:

I will have to start with small steps and focus on making minuscule accomplishments but each little success will eventually add up to whole life wellness. There are many moments where two or more areas of wellness will overlap each other as I work towards achieving my goals. This is good thing because true wellness is a holistic endeavour; when all areas of your life are working in sync, then you will have achieved the life of your dreams!

Where do I start? I will start by setting specific measurable goals that will help me create a wellness road map that will guide me on my way. I’ve decided to coincide these goals with my New Years’ resolutions. (This is big for me because I stopped making resolutions over 10 years ago when I realized how unsuccessful I was year after year.) I did it this way to make myself accountable in 2010. On December 31, 2010 I will be able to determine how I’ve done and where I need to go from there. So my timeline is set. Now for the details – I’ll start with my broader goals that I will measure in one year and then as I continue to blog, I will break these goals down into short daily chunks that I can measure each day, week and month. I’ve got lots of ideas so hang on; we’re in for a great ride.
